Poisson Pilote

« Poisson Pilote »- the latter word « Pilote » evoking the famous French Comic magazine in which generation of talented authors was born - is a collection of especially inventive authors, who have progressed through comics like the exploration of virgin territory. It is people like David B., Manu Larcenet, Frank Le Gall, Pierre Le Gal, Fabrice Parme, Joann Sfar, Lewis Trondheim, Christophe Blain…. As bizarre as they can be, their paths give the impression of coherence and demand. It is as if these people have really thought about this art form and about the great possibilities it offers. Or maybe it came to them like that, while making coffee. Who knows? They already existed, the « Poisson Pilote » collection was created for them; for these disconcerting authors who, one day or another, receive the following letter: « Your project is fantastic, but it does not fit into any of our collections. Signed the Editor ». They are now all gathered, happy like fish in water. No matter that the story is set in Texas or in fifteenth century Venice, that it is about an alien invasion or the mood of a fly; they all have a certain vision of the world, strong, unexpected, set apart. Add to this some innovative graphics, an elegant management of the absurd, a bit of culture but not too much, intelligence to sell… and you have « Poisson Pilote ». |
